Every june 16th has been set aside to celebrate an African child, the event that led to the recognition of the day, happened On June 16, 1971 where more than 20,000 South African students in the township of Soweto took to the streets and were demanding to be taught in their own language. The Armed police officers responded by murdering hundreds of protesters. Hence the day is being declared as a public holiday
in South Africa, which is referred to as Youth Day, and also recognized as International Day of the African Child throughout the world. The. day was first established by the Organization of the African Unity in 1991, the day aims at raising awareness for the situation of children in African, and on the need for continuing improvement in education also focuses attention on the barriers African children face in order to receive a quality education.
An African child needs to be celebrated everyday, not only on 16th of June every year, the role of an African child in any economy can not be pushed aside, An African child is the future of any Nation. Take away an African child in a nation, then such nation have no future.
